Fire breaks out in utility building at Hunterdon Medical Center; no injuries reported
RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A two-alarm fire broke out at a cogeneration power plant on the Hunterdon Medical Center campus Saturday afternoon, according to a post on the Flemington-Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad’s Facebook page.
Emergency crews responded at 2:33 p.m. to the Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township for a reported fire alarm activation, authorities said.
The incident was upgraded to a level 2 box alarm after reports of smoke in the cogeneration plant building, which is a separate building on the hospital campus, the post said
Upon arrival, it was determined that an electric motor had burned up inside the co-gen plant. The fire was contained and extinguished with the building’s automatic Halon fire suppression system, authorities said.
Fire crews then entered the structure to confirm extinguishment of the fire, the post said.
All units were clear in about an hour, authorities said.
The Raritan Township Fire Company, Flemington Fire Department, Quakertown Fire Company, and the Flemington-Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad responded to the scene.
