Byram Township Police hold awards ceremony

BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Several Byram Township police officers on Tuesday received achievement awards for various accomplishments and/or acts that occurred in 2023.

The following individuals received awards:

  • Chief Kenneth Burke (Ret.): Chief Burke received an Honorable Discharge Medal for 30 years of service to the Byram Township Police Department. Chief Burke also received a 30-year Good Conduct Award.
  • Chief Daniel DeWald and Det. Lawrence Mendelsohn: Chief DeWald (who was the rank of Lieutenant at the time of the incident) and Det. Mendelsohn each received an Honorable Service Award for their roles in a theft investigation that lead to the apprehension of a suspect who was wanted by other state and federal agencies.  The suspect was subsequently charged criminally in several other states for similar thefts. Numerous open criminal cases were closed due to the actions of these officers.
  • Sgt. Thomas Dellicker: Sgt. Dellicker received a 20-year Good Conduct Award.
  • Sgt. Marcus Lisa: Sgt. Lisa received an Educational Achievement Award for receiving a Master’s Degree in Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickenson University.
  • Ptl. Kevin Garrity: Ptl. Garrity received an Educational Achievement Award for receiving an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Sussex County Community College.

Jay Edwards

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music. Jay has held numerous jobs over the years such as stunt car driver, bartender, voice-over artist, traffic reporter (award winning), NY Yankee maintenance crewmember and peanut farm worker. His hobbies include mountain climbing, snowmobiling, cooking, performing stand-up comedy and he is an avid squirrel watcher. Jay has been a guest on America’s Morning Headquarters,program on The Weather Channel, and was interviewed by Sam Champion.
