Hunterdon County Library announces special financial literacy program for teens

“PitBulls: the Ultimate Market Simulation Game”

HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – Hunterdon County Library Director, James Keehbler and Head of Teen Services, Emily Witkowski shared at the recent Commissioner Board meeting about a special financial literacy program that will be offered at the Main Branch Library, on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., entitled “PitBulls: the Ulitmate Market Simulation Game”.

The program is open for ages 13-18 years of age, and parents are encouraged to participate as well.

PitBulls is a fast-paced Wall Street trading game that offers as much excitement as the market. The game simulates the real-life showdown of the stock market and focuses on the participants mastery of estimation, probability, and negotiation associated with the market.

“This is great! Financial literacy for teenagers should be offered as a primary course for all young adults. I never had access to anything like this when I was in school and think it is so important to learn about the stock market, and the high-stakes world of stock trading, buying, and selling. This is definitely financial literacy at its most fun,” Commissioner Director Rich said.

The developer of the game, Michael Steiner is a former Wall Street derivatives trader that, over many years and with a lot of help from friends, made the game PitBulls so that he could personally have more fun at his job teaching high school. The game is designed to become progressively more complex and at the end of the competition, a grand finale winner will earn a prize.
