Hunterdon County Commissioners help kick-off ‘2023 4-H & Agricultural Fair’ at opening ceremony

EAST AMWELL TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – The Board of Commissioners along with County Clerk Mary Melfi, Sheriff Fred Brown, Prosecutor Renee Robeson, and Chris Phelan, President/CEO of the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce, were joined by Senator Doug Steinhardt, Senator Andrew Zwicker, Assemblyman Erik Peterson, and Assemblyman Roy Freiman Thursday for the opening ceremonies to the ‘2023 4-H & Agricultural Fair’ at South County Park, located on Route 179, in East Amwell Township.

Commissioner Director Zach Rich, presented awards to individual recipients for extended and outstanding years of service and dedication to Hunterdon County 4-H Club:

  • Susan Miller, 50 years of service.
  • Betty Jane Hunt, over 50 years of service.
  • Ruth Crommelin, 58 years of service.
  • Louisa Cole, 61 years of service.

The following 4-H Clubs were recognized with plaques for their momentous anniversaries:

  • The Centaurs 4-H Club of Hunterdon County, 63rd Anniversary.
  • The Hunterdon County 4-H Junior Leaders Club, 65th Anniversary.
  • The Hunterdon County 4-H Sheep Club, 75th Anniversary.
  • The Mt. Airy 4-H Dairy Club, 100th Anniversary.

“On behalf of the entire Board and all Legislative representatives here today, I would like to extend a heartfelt congratulations collectively to the individuals and 4-H Club recipients that were recognized at the opening ceremony. The 4-H & Agricultural Fair is long standing event that has been celebrated in Hunterdon County for many generations. It is exciting for both residents and visitors, and a great representation of the County’s rich farming heritage and the importance that agriculture plays to Hunterdon’s quality of life,” Commissioner Director Rich said.

The 4-H & Agricultural Fair features 4-H fun, livestock shows, musical entertainment, rides, food and numerous exhibits for families and visitors to enjoy. The Fair runs through Sunday August 27th, with a fireworks display on Friday, August 25 after 9:00 p.m.

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music. Jay has held numerous jobs over the years such as stunt car driver, bartender, voice-over artist, traffic reporter (award winning), NY Yankee maintenance crewmember and peanut farm worker. His hobbies include mountain climbing, snowmobiling, cooking, performing stand-up comedy and he is an avid squirrel watcher. Jay has been a guest on America’s Morning Headquarters,program on The Weather Channel, and was interviewed by Sam Champion.
